Alarmed at the large number of US people falling victim to the Nigerian 419 scam, the US State Department last month issued a caution brochure. The US consulate usual in Lagos could further get 3,000 inquiries from victims every year, says the brochure "International Financial Scams".
An expert on Ultrascan's 419 Unit, Frank Engelsman, says information and working with internet and cell phone service giver are the two commonest anti-419 tactics of governments. "These are inexpensive approaches. The problem cannot be solved with obtainable law enforcement methods."

The Information Technology Department launched its fresh campus e-mail scheme last semester in an effort to treat speed problems, which occurred with the previous structure.However, events of increased spam messages established through Pipeline e-mail have grown with the new system.
"Spamming has left up by an order of scale in the last year," said Tim Brown, vice president for Information and Technology.
Although the rate of return for spammers is only 4 percent, the industry is a profitable business, contribution seminars on writing improved spam and investment some of the most influential computer systems, Brown said.
