Latest Spam plan to use PDFs

Five billion spam messages swamped the Internet last week in a sensible looking pump-and-dump spam, which had its planned effect of boosting trading volume for German-based Talktech Tele-media.

Cisco's IronPort Systems first exposed the scam, which caused shares of Talktech Tele-media to leap over 20 percent. The outburst was the first main example of a spammer using a PDF to promote a stock, according to IronPort.

The use of a fresh file kind made the spam less probable to be caught by anti-spam filters (spam bait). The professional-looking document was planned to look precisely like an investment newsletter, making recipients more probable to believe it was authentic.
